Poona Bayabao gets training on start-up of small businesses, livelihood

A joint project of two organizations has began training selected community leaders and peace advocates in the Lanao del Sur town of Poona Bayabao on starting livelihood and small economic ventures to allow peace advocacy to progress into a stronger self-sufficiency for families in former conflict areas.

On May 21 this year, the Maranao People Development Center (MARADECA) Inc and the Davao City-based nongovernment organization SUCCED Global, began to implement a three-year project entitled Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in Local Economic Development in Muslim Mindanao Philippines (SI-LED M2P) in Municipality of Poona Bayabao, Lanao del Sur.

The project wants to see a sustainable and Inclusive local economic development in conflict affected areas in muslim Mindanao through forging a multi-stakeholder partnership and collaboration with private sectors, cooperatives, business sectors ,small holder farmers, women, youth , fisherfolks , government and civil society organization.

The project has four components: 1.) strengthening social economic sectors in smallholder agriculture 2.) private sector development 3.) democratic, accountable, transparent and effective governance for peace-building and 4.) land tenure improvement and local conflict resolution and management.

The orientation and training was held on May 21 this yearin Barangay Ragayan, municipality of Poona Bayabao.

The project operations manager, Mr. NieloTingzon, emphasized in the orientation that the project “will provide capability building trainings to women, farmers, fisher folk and small-scale entrepreneurs and help small scale business entrepreneurs to link their products to other agencies”.

The training and orientation was also graced with the presence of SUCCEED Global Executive Director Mr. JoselitoLibres.

Fifty-five participants from various stakeholders participated on the orientation including those representing local and barangay government units of Poona Bayabao.

The activity was aimed to orient and introduce to the residents about the SI-LED M2P project “for them to fully understand the objectives of the project and its benefits”.

One of the participants in the orientation expressed his warmth appreciation to SUCCEED GLOBAL and MARADECA in choosing their municipality as partners for their project.

Participants assured stakeholders that they will cooperate and participate on the project intervention.
