Spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Maranao People Development Center (MARADECA) Inc, and people’s organization OBAERA AND OTR, a seminar was conducted last April 26, 2016 at Brgy. Langi Talub, Masiu, Lanao del Sur in line with the celebration of Earth Day.
The theme of the celebration was “Trees for Earth, Trees for Ranao” and was participated by about 144 people from various areas of Masiu, Lanao del Sur. The guest speaker was Mr. Ashmarie Labao, Provincial Information Officer and Planning Officer of DENR. He gave inputs regarding Global Warming, Climate Change and some related environmental issues in the province.
He encouraged the people to start rehabilitating the forest and start planting trees. He also tackled about the effects if we didn’t look after the environment which we are currently experiencing right now. Labao also emphasized the El Nino effect which the planet is currently facing. He said, “we suffer El Nino because of the people’s negligence. Before when the nature is not yet destroyed, El Nino does not exist. It is the humans who gave birth to El Nino.”
