Early Recovery Assistance Provided to Flood-Affected Families in Balabagan and Kapatagan

The July 2024 devastating flash floods brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which tragically claimed lives and properties, spurred immediate action from Maranao People Development Center Inc. (MARADECA), sending its Emergency Response Team to conduct Rapid Need Assessment to document the plight of the affected families in the municipalities of Balabagan and Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur who experienced significant agricultural and livelihood losses from the flash floods.ย  MARADECA in partnership with Give to the World initiated an early recovery assistance program to support the affected communities.

Part of the early recovery assistance program, MARADECA Inc. distributed essential agricultural inputs, including farm tools, vegetable seeds, and fertilizers in Barangay Salamunan, Kapatagan on April 3, 2025 and in Municipality of Balabagan on April 4, 2025. This is to help the affected families restart their farming activities and regain a stable source of income.

A total of 291 beneficiaries received the early recovery assistanceโ€”202 from Kapatagan and 89 from Balabagan. These materials are expected to support the cultivation of vegetables, which will not only provide food for the families but also help restore their livelihoods through small-scale farming.

MARADECAโ€™s intervention is part of its continuing commitment to help communities build resilience and recover from climate-related disaster by empowering local farmers with the tools and resources needed for food production
